Two hardcore ULFA militants on Friday surrendered and deposited a huge quantity of arms and ammunition before the Sonitpur district administration.
The duo surrenderdd before Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Prasad and Superintendent of Police Surendra Kumar.
The militalts Prafulla Sarma alias Manik Saikia alias Bahni Tamu,y and Dhaneswar Barkotoky alias Biraj Bora alias Bhaityboth belonged to the outfits 27 Battalion.
The militants deposited a AK-56 rifle with 90 rounds of ammunition and two magazines,a M-20 pistol with two magazines,two programmable time device switches,aN electronic detonator and 800 gm of TNT.
The militants told raporters after the ceremony that they left as they were disillusioned with infighting in the outfit. While the matter was raised during Zero Hour by Najma Heptulla (BJP),other women members including those from Congress supported the demand for bringing the Womens Reservation Bill.
We want the Womens Reservation Bill to be brought, Heptulla demanded,seeking support from her male colleagues,several of whom backed the issue.
Heptulla said the UPA government had promised to bring the Bill in 100 days and there is no sign of the same as yet.
Prabha Thakur and Sushila Tiriya of Congress and Vasanthi Stanley (DMK) supported Heptulla.
Towards the end of its previous tenure,UPA government had introduced the Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
However,there is no political consensus on it with major opposition coming from Samajwadi Party and RJD.
