TV Ad campaign against Naxal violence

Chhattisgarh gov has launched animated TV spots, highlighting the extent of damages caused due to Naxalite violence.

STEPPING up its media campaign,Chhattisgarh government has launched animated television spots, highlighting the extent of damages caused due to Naxalite violence, mainly in tribal Bastar region, and pitching a message for unity to ‘protect right to life’.

The 50-second animation TV Ad begins with depiction of a land mine blast targeting a passenger bus and later throws up statistics related to Naxalite violence—killing of 1030 civilians and 720 security personnel and destruction of 297 public vehicles. As many 80 roads were dug up,97 school and tribal hostel buildings and 68 panchayat buildings were blown up. Electricity offices, railway stations and railway lines were damaged at 92 places. The Ad pitches the message for peoples’ unity to protect ‘right to life’.

Chhattisgarh’s state bird, the ‘Bastar Myna’—a type of the ‘Hill Myna’ considered as adept in imitating the human voice—is the TV spot’s main animated character which says “ Himmat hai man mein; Takat hai is mutti mein. Hum honge kamiyab”. And the TV spot ends with a caricature of Chief Minister Raman Singh.

The Ad is being telecast on regional news channels and efforts are being made to get these animation spots telecast through cable TV networks as well as during regional and national telecast of public broadcaster Doordharshan and few other national TV channels, official sources said adding that another TV spot was also in the making and the campaign was part of the state government efforts to build public opinion against Naxalite violence and counter the false propaganda by Maoists and their sympathizers.

state government’s media campaign against Naxalites began almost four months after the union home ministry launched a media blitzkrieg in September this year, putting out advertisements in national and regional newspapers about the violence unleashed by the rebels, whom it termed as “ nothing but cold blooded murderers”.

Meanwhile, additional chief secretary Serjius Minj said the state government has also stepped up its efforts to implement the integrated action plan (IAP) for infrastructure development under which each of the naxalite-hit districts are to be allocated a sum of ’25 crore during this fiscal and’ 30 crore during the next financial year.

“These funds would be spent on developing basic amenities and to meet other requirements in the respective districts. Detailed guidelines for implementation of the action plan are being issued”,he said adding that a committee comprising district collector, superintendent of police and forest department official would oversee its implementation.
