TN bans non-biodegradable plastics at tourist destinations

Tamil nadu government has banned the use of non-biodegrable plastics in tourist places.

As part of Tamil Nadu government’s efforts to promote eco tourism,a proposal to ban non-biodegradable plastics in tourist places was under its active consideration,state Environment Minister T K M Chinnayya has said.

“Facilities would be created so that the locals and tourists were able to buy biodegradable carry bags without any trouble”,he added.

He was speaking to reporters after reviewing the ongoing development works in the town along with Tourism Minister Gokula Indira.

Indira said the ancient town known for its rock sculptures would soon be developed with well laid lawns and green parks at vantage locations.

She said,“steps would also be taken to regulate and train the guides who conduct the tourists around the town,a former capital of the Pallava dynasty.”

She said Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa wanted to make Tamil Nadu as the top tourist destination in the country.

An estimate was being prepared for a world class bus stand in Mamallapuram for which Central funds had also been sought.
