Six months imprisonment to ex-TDP MLA for detaining train

A local court found an ex-TDP MLA and six others guilty of detaining a passenger train in Guntur district and sentenced them to six months imprisonment.

A local court found an ex-TDP MLA and six others guilty of detaining a passenger train in Guntur district and sentenced them to six months imprisonment.

Second metropolitan magistrate (Railways) convicted Mummaneni Venkata Subbaiah,ex-MLA (TDP) of Repalli constituency in Guntur,and six other political workers for detaining a Guntur-bound passenger train at Repalli railway station on October 24,2007.

The convicts had detained the train demanding minimum support price for paddy as per the call given by an all party committee.

Subbaiah sentenced them to six months imprisonment and also fined them Rs 500.

The convicts paid the fine and filed a bail petition requesting the court for setting aside the conviction.
