Serial attacks by Maoists’ during Orissa bandh

Maoists triggered over a dozen explosions that damaged railway tracks and police stations,torched vehicles and looted arms and ammunition in Orissa's Sundargarh district where they had given a bandh call.

Maoists triggered over a dozen explosions that damaged railway tracks and police stations,torched vehicles and looted arms and ammunition in Orissa’s Sundargarh district where they had given a bandh call on Thursday.

Police said five railway employees of Topadihi station,about 65 km from here,were also suspected to have been abducted by Maoists who struck in separate groups at different places in the wee hours to enforce the bandh called to protest against arrest of 30 people,branded as ultras.

Armed Maoists blasted the Rourkela-Barsuan single railway line at eight places between Bimlagarh and Patsai situated in interior area of Saranda forest paralysing train services on the route,police said.

They blew up Kalta police outpost,Koida police station and two abandoned CRPF camps,while two CITU offices,a village community centre and Durga puja pandals were bombed at Kalta,Koida and Toda villages. The Maoists also fired indiscriminately at the CRPF camp at K. Balang besides looting seven rifles from a private security camp at Kalta mines,sources said.

A small bridge connecting Siabahal under K. Balang police station was blown up and a few heavy vehicles parked on the NH-215 at Roxi were set on fire. Search was on to trace the five railway employees assistant station manager of Topadihi station Upendra Kumar,station superintendent N N Majhi,token porter R N Mahato and cabinmen Md. Taj and S C Majhi.
