The Jammu and Kashmir government has engaged Rail India Techno Economic Survey Limited to prepare a transport plan to address the traffic problem in Srinagar and Jammu,Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said. "Rail India Techno Economic Survey Limited (RITES) has been entrusted the task of formulating a holistic and integrated survey report for mass transport infrastructure including roads,flyovers,separate tracks for light and heavy vehicles,bicycle tracks and feasibility of metro in the two cities," Omar said after inaugurating a flyover at Hyderpora. He said the agency is likely to give its report by the end of this year. Omar said the government is planning to bring Srinagar and Jammu at par with other metros in the country when it comes to transportation and good road network. Massive road construction programme has been launched across the state with special focus on development and upgrading of roads in Srinagar,Jammu and other towns,he said. The Hyderpora flyover estimated to cost Rs 33.84 crore is a part of the four laning of 17.8 km national highway bypass Srinagar.
