Puri priest shot dead

The Priest at historic Sri Jagannath Temple was today gunned down by some unidentified men.

A municipal councillor,who was also priest at historic Sri Jagannath Temple here,was today gunned down by some unidentified men.

Police said ‘Guna Sinhari’ alias Talachhu Bhagaban Mohapatra,38,a councillor from ward number one of Puri Municipality,was fired at by miscreants as he came down the street near a youth club this evening.

Besides being a member of the Temple Managing Committee,Mohapatra was also Secretary of Pushpalak Nijog,a leading priest association in the Puri temple.

Gajapati Maharaj Dibya Singh Deb and Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) Arabinda Padhee who is also the chief administrator of the temple,condoled Mohapatra’s death.

“We are yet to ascertain the motive behind the gunning down of Mohapatra who was fired from point blank range,” Puri SP Anup Kumar Sahu said.
