Peer Kho to come up as major tourist attraction in Jammu

'The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the current fiscal.'

The revered Peer Kho temple on the bank of River Tawi in Jammu is being developed as a major tourist attraction at a cost of Rs 3.50 crore in a bid to promote religious tourism in the city,a minister said on Thursday.

“Peer Kho temple is being developed as a major tourist attraction in Jammu. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the current fiscal,” Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora said while inspecting the temple complex.

Jora directed officials to complete by February the upcoming Tourist Reception Centre,being built at a cost of Rs 90 lakhs,so that devotees do not face inconvenience on the eve of the ensuing Maha Shivratri.

The minister also inspected the ongoing work on amphi theatre (open air theatre) and suggested some modifications in the design.

The development project for Peer Kho temple also includes construction of shelter sheds-cum viewing docks,bathing ghats alongside the Tawi river bank and a recreation park,officials said.

Jora said government has conceived a comprehensive plan for exploiting the potential of pilgrim tourism optimally in all three regions of the state — Jammu,Kashmir and Ladakh.
