Army continues its search in the forests of Gurez Valley looking for the militant group that had sneaked into the valley last week. The operation is likely to get extended by another week as Army has failed to trace the infiltrators. So far,one infiltrator has been killed in this operation that entered into its second week on Thursday.
Sources said keeping in view the tough terrain and dense forests in Gurez near the Line of Control, the operation will take seven to ten days more. Terrain is difficult and area is huge where militants could have taken shelter soon after they sneaked into the Gurez. It will take seven to ten days to complete this operation, said a senior police officer who is closely monitoring this operation.
The officer said that the Police and Army had information about the infiltration attempt. We are not sure whether infiltrators are still hiding in the dense forests or natural caves in the mountains of Gurez. But,every information coming from the advance patrol parties is being scanned, he said, adding that forest area has been completely sealed by the army.
Defence spokesman J S Brar also said that the search operation is underway in the Gurez Valley. The area where militants were spotted first is near the Line of Control,so,the army teams are searching and combing the area very carefully, he said. This is a slow operation and will take some time.
Earlier,Army had ruled out air dropping of commandos in the dense forests of Gurez soon after there were some reports that army is contemplating to air drop elite commandos in the Gurez forests. The Army denied that commandos were air dropped.
Last Thursday, the Army had encircled a big group of infiltrators in the forests of Gurez Valley, but bad weather and snowfall hampered the operation against the infiltrators. So far,one unidentified militant has been killed in this operation in the forests of Hajibal Gurez. Sources however said that bad weather and poor visibility could have helped the militants in their escape.
