J-K govt grants digitisation of archives to Kinsely

The Jammu and Kashmir government has granted the task of digitisation of more than 15 lakh folios of rare books and manuscripts to 'Kinsely Brothers',official sources said today.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has granted the task of digitisation of more than 15 lakh folios of rare books and manuscripts to ‘Kinsely Brothers’,official sources said today.

The job of digitisation of archival records of 15 lakh pages in the second phase of the project has been assigned to the Kinsely Brothers,State Archives department officials said.

With an to preserve the rare and ancient archival records,the state government has conceived a project for digitisation of more than 15 lakh folios of archives,rare books and manuscripts,and automation and networking of four public libraries in Jammu and Kashmir.

Kinsley has started the digitisation work at Jammu repository recently,they said,adding so far more than 2,00,000 lakh pages have been scanned and digitalised.

A number of initiatives have already been taken to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the state. Some of these include upgradation and modernisation of the famous cultural centers of Tagore Hall,Srinagar and Abhinav Theatre,Jammu.

Meanwhile,the government has created Heritage Conservation and Preservation Authority after notifying Heritage Conservation & Preservation Act,they said.
