BJP on Sunday demanded that October 26,the day of accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India,be declared as a state holiday.
“We demand 26th of October, the day of accession with India,be declared as state holiday and celebrated as national festivals like Independence Day and Republic Day,” BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas told reporters here.
Manhas said this has become essential because of the doubts and controversies being raised by secessionists to distance the state from rest of the country.
“We will celebrate accession day as Deepawali and we took stock of the preparations made for the party’s programmes to be organised in connection with the Accession Day celebrations across the state,” he said.
Manhas also objected to the statement of the interlocutors by raising doubts about the finality of the accession of the state of Jammu and Kashmir with rest of India.
