Cold wave in Kashmir continues despite minor rise in temp

Leh recorded the lowest temperature in Kashmir division at minus 20.2 degree Celsius.

The cold wave in Kashmir division including Ladakh region continued,with Leh town freezing at minus 20 degrees Celsius,even though the minimum temperatures across the region appreciated by a couple of degrees.

Leh recorded the lowest temperature in Kashmir division at minus 20.2 degree Celcius,which was 2.8 degrees higher than the minimum temperature recorded yesterday,a MET Department official said.

Other parts of the Valley saw the night temperatures appreciating as Gulmarg skiing resort recorded a low of minus 9.2 deg C,which was 2.5 degrees higher than yesterday.

Pahalgam tourist resort in south Kashmir recorded a temperature of minus 7.7 deg C compared to yesterday’s minus 12.4 deg C.

Qazigund,the gateway town to Kashmir Valley near Jawahar tunnel,was freezing at minus 8.4 deg C while Kokernag town in Anantnag district witnessed a night temperature of minus 7.5 deg C.

In Srinagar city,the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir,the minimum temperature rose by 1.1 deg C to settle at minus 4.1 deg C.

Kargil town witnessed an extremely cold night with a minimum temperature of minus 18 deg C,a minor rise from minus 18.2 deg C the previous night.

With no downpour forecast over the next 24 hours,the cold wave in Kashmir division,which includes Ladakh region also,is likely to intensify,MET sources said.
