Army jawan killed in firing near LoC

Sepoy Mohinder Singh was killed in firing from across the border at Khari near Chakan-da-Bagh crossing point.

An army jawan was killed in an exchange of fire with armed militants who made an attempt to sneak into the Indian territory from across the Line of Control in Poonch district during wee hours of Monday morning.

Identifying the deceased jawan as Sepoy Mohinder Singh of 8 Kumaon Regiment,defence ministry spokesman Lt Colonel Biplab Nath said the militants opened fire on being challenged by the army troops. During the exchange of fire,one jawan got killed near PK Post in Poonch district.

The militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness. The body of deceased jawan was found in the morning lying 200 meters away from the LoC.

Earlier on Saturday night,BSF jawans had killed an unidentified person who crossed over to this side of the border in Akhnoor from Pakistan. Sources said that the BSF jawans at Chak Phagwari post opened fire when the intruder instead of responding to their warning started running back towards Pakistan side.

Later on Sunday,the BSF officials held a flag meeting with their Pakistani counterpart,but later refused to acknowledge the deceased as a Pakistan national.
