Sairang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express accident, Rajdhani Train Accident Today in Assam:Indian Railways has regulated the movement of 25 trains following the derailment of Mizoram’s first Rajdhani Express, operating between Sairang and New Delhi. The incident occurred around 02:17 hours in the Jamunamukh–Kampur section under the Lumding Division, which falls within the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone.
In a statement, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said: “Train no. 20507 DN Sairang – New Delhi Rajdhani Express dashed with elephants, resulting in derailment of the locomotive and five coaches of the train. However, there are no casualties or injuries to any passenger.”
Sharma also stated that the area is about 126 km away from Guwahati. “Accident Relief trains along with officials from the divisional HQ is already at site,” he added.
According to the railways, the incident took place at a location which is not a designated elephant corridor. “The loco pilot on observing the herd of elephants applied emergency brakes. However elephants dashed with the train,” the CPRO said.
Sharing a post on X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident and directed the Forest Department to secure wildlife corridors, particularly during periods of low visibility.
