Weather Today: More rainfall expected in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as IMD issues orange alert

Residents are grappling with severe disruptions to their daily lives as rescue and rehabilitation efforts are underway.

As parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana reel from floods that have left several dead and many more stranded, the India Meteorological Department Thursday warned that the two states are likely to get more heavy rain in the next five days, issuing an orange alert.

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in the two states in the past week, causing extensive damage to roads, submerging rail tracks, and flooding crops over thousands of acres. Residents are grappling with severe disruptions to their daily lives as rescue and rehabilitation efforts are underway.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu urged bankers and insurance representatives to expedite claims for damaged vehicles and property within 10 days and resolve them within two weeks. He also called on banks to reschedule loans for flood victims, many of whom have lost everything and are struggling to rebuild their lives.

Central and Western India

The weather agency also cautioned that heavy rains are expected in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, and eastern Madhya Pradesh.

The IMD has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in Kutch, Saurashtra, and East Madhya Pradesh from September 5 to 6. Additionally, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, and Konkan may face similar weather conditions from September 5 to 8.

North East and Eastern India:

The weather department has forecast isolated heavy rainfall across Nagaland, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh over the next seven days. Specifically, Arunachal Pradesh is expected to receive heavy showers from September 5 to 6. Bihar is anticipated to experience heavy rainfall on September 5 and 6, while Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal are likely to receive heavy showers today. Odisha is projected to experience similar weather conditions from September 5 to 8.

Southern India

Intense rainfall is expected in Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam on September 5, with these conditions continuing in Telangana, Yanam, North Interior Karnataka, and coastal Andhra Pradesh through September 8. South Interior Karnataka will see heavy rain from September 5 to 7.
