Raids underway in 7 Kashmir districts in case registered for ‘glorifying terrorism’

The intelligence wing of the Jammu and Kashmir police has launched simultaneous Valley-wide raids in a “glorification of terrorism” case early Tuesday morning.

The Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK), a branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that deals with militancy cases, raided 12 places in seven districts of the Kashmir valley.

Sources said that the raids were launched in a case registered two years ago with the CIK police station. The case has been registered under sections 153-A (promoting enmity) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC and sections 13 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Police sources say that the case pertains to the “glorification of terrorism” through social media channels. They said the social media posts “glorified and propagated terrorist ideology with an aim to radicalise the youth and to recruit them into their ranks”.

Sources said that the raids and searches are being conducted in Pulwama, Budgam, Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag and Kupwara districts of the valley.

They said that search warrants have been obtained from the “competent authority” to carry out searches.
