Protesters storm NCC camp, assault Lt Colonel after food poisoning incident in Kerala; 2 arrested

Two people were arrested on Monday after protesters stormed into an NCC camp held in Thrikkakara near Kochi last week and assaulted a Lieutenant Colonel, following a food poisoning incident at the camp.
The incident took place on the night of December 23 after 107 participants of the camp, who are students from schools and colleges in Kerala’s Ernakulam district, suffered from food poisoning.
After the food poisoning, several people, including parents and students, protested outside the camp. Local leaders from different political parties, including the CPI(M) and BJP, also joined the protest.
During the protest, a few people stormed the NCC camp and assaulted Lieutenant Colonel Karnail Singh, the administrative officer of the 21 Kerala Battalion of the NCC.

The two arrested accused were identified as Nishad and Navas, both parents of students who fell ill.
Thrikkakara police station inspector A K Sudheer said there were seven accused in the case. The two arrested were charged with manhandling the Lieutenant Colonel and preventing him from discharging his duty.
The others accused in the case included Bhagyalakshmi, an SFI leader, and Pramod, a BJP councillor at Kalamassery municipality.
The 10-day camp began on December 21, but was suspended following the food poisoning incident.
