Days after five soldiers were killed in Poonch, National Conference president and former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday challenged the government’s claims of ending terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
“They (Central government) said that Article 370 was the root cause of terror and the latter will end after its abrogation, but the terror was never finished,’’ he said addressing a function on May Day at party headquarters in Sher-e-Kashmir Bahwan.
He criticised the government over the killing of five soldiers in the terror attack on an Army vehicle and asked whether they did not have families. “They are being sent in non-bulletproof vehicles and what will happen than getting killed,” he regretted.
He also questioned the central government for not holding the G20 meeting in Jammu and questioned the silence of local BJP leaders on the matter.
He further criticised the government’s attempts to settle non-locals in Jammu, stating that it was an attempt to destroy Dogra identity and their culture.
“They (non-locals) will get everything including jobs and you will be left with nothing,’’ he said, adding that not a single BJP leader was talking about it.
