PM Modi likely to inaugurate redeveloped Tripurasundari temple on Sept 22

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the redeveloped Tripurasundari temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, at Udaipur in Tripura’s Gomati district on September 22, state officials said in Agartala on Sunday.

Although the schedule of PM Modi’s visit to the state is yet to be finalised, senior officers, including Director General of Police Anurag Dhyankar, visited Udaipur to review the arrangements on Saturday.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and other senior ministers are also expected to oversee the preparations for Modi’s visit on Monday, said an official.

The Tripurasundari temple was built by the late Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in 1501.

CM Saha had laid the foundation stone and took part in the bhumi puja of the 51-Shakti Peethas Park at Banduar in Gomati district on July 13.

The Rs 97.70 crore project was undertaken by the state government with financial assistance from the Union Ministry of Tourism.

“Tripura has implemented different tourism projects worth Rs 350 crore under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme and Asian Development Bank (ADB) funding,” Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury had earlier said after visiting the project site located four kilometres from the Tripurasundari temple.

“The 51 Shakti Peethas Park will showcase the replicas of Shakti Peethas throughout the Indian subcontinent,” said the official.

A food court and a souvenir shop, among others, would come up at the park complex, the official added.
