PDP’s Waheed ParraDays after National Conference leader Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi) moved an alleged breach of privilege motion against PDP’s Waheed ur Rehman Para, the speaker of the J&K Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, has sought comments from the latter within the next seven days.
The notice issued to Para on Tuesday stated that during his speech on the motion of thanks post the Lieutenant Governor’s Address to the J&K Assembly, the Pulwama MLA “leveled some allegations and used derogatory remarks against him”.
The incident occurred in the J&K Assembly on November 8, when Para spoke on the floor of the house and countered the NC MLA for “his language used against PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the Jamaat-e-Islami”.
The matter was placed before the Speaker, who has now sought comments from Para within the next seven days.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Para said, “I have just seen this breach of privilege notice. This government was handed a significant mandate by the people. We are in the opposition and we want to raise peoples’ issues in the assembly. We have not done anything wrong.”
Para, who is also the PDP legislative party leader in the assembly, said that when they raised their voice against the government’s resolution, “the speaker said that he didn’t hear it. We also brought notices for an amendment to the resolution twice, which was not acknowledged”.
Stating that there are only about five MLAs in the assembly who are in the opposition and making attempts to bring up the issues of the people, Para said, “If they still choose to bring breach of privilege against me, then that’s okay. We are not going to be scared of these tactics.”
He said that the people of J&K should be aware that this motion “has been moved against me for trying to stop a legislator for making remarks against the Jamaat and Mufti sahab”.
