The move will boost rice shipments. It comes days after the government lifted the ban on export of non-basmati white rice. On September 28, the Centre had lifted the ban but imposed a minimum export price of $490 per tonne.

Last month, the government removed the 20% export duty on non-basmati white rice, and halved export duty on three other categories of rice. The duty on ‘rice in the husk (paddy or rough)’, ‘husked (brown) rice’, and ‘parboiled rice’ was reduced from 20 per cent to 10 per cent. Now, it has been further reduced to nil.
