Over 4 lakh hired by Govt under ‘Mission Recruitment’ so far — every sixth a woman

Of these, 3,61,763 (84%) recruits were male and 68,783 (16%) women, shows data available with the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.

The mega recruitment drive began after Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June last year “instructed” officials to fill 10 lakh posts (vacant as on March 2022) within 18 months. A few months later, on October 14, the first Rozgar Mela was held (see chart).

Most of the hirings — 1,38,986 — were done for the Ministry of Railways, followed by the Department of Posts (68,225) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (43,592).

While 33,743 candidates were selected for the Department of Financial Services, the Ministry of Defence got 18,635 new recruits, the Department of Revenue 14,952, and the Department of Higher Education 11,536.

Around one in every six candidates hired so far under ‘Mission Recruitment’ were women, official data shows.

“The recruitments are largely in posts of Group B and Group C level, which directly helps these departments to provide higher quality of service at the cutting edge level to the citizens. All the recruitments are taking place through the recruitment agencies like SSC, UPSC and RRBs in a time- bound and transparent manner,” the Personnel Ministry said.

According to the Ministry, the new recruits will work as:

* Ministry of Health and Family Welfare: Doctor; Medical Specialist; Assistant/ Associate/ Additional Professors; Physiotherapist; Technical Officers; Sanitary attendant; Occupational Therapist; Ophthalmic Technician, etc

* Department of School Education: Principal; Trained Graduate Teacher; P-G Teacher

* Ministry of Railways: Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk; Junior clerk-cum-Typist; Junior Accounts Clerk; Track Maintainer; Points Man; Assistants

* Department of Financial Services: Probationary Officers; Agriculture Field Officer; Clerk/ Single Window Operator; Development Assistant; Armed Guard; Junior Associate

*Department of Posts: Gramin Dak Sevaks; Inspector of Posts

Minister of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Jitendra Singh the process of recruitment has seen a “qualitative change” under the Modi government.

“For example, interviews have been abolished for lower grade posts, thus leaving little room for any favouritism, nepotism or misappropriation in allocation of selection marks. The selection is purely on the basis of the written test, while the skill test is only a qualifying one,” Singh said.
