The police in Hyderabad seized 600 kilograms of noxious chicken from two outlets in Secunderabad and arrested two men for selling the meat to the public.

The arrested have been identified as M Bhasker, 34, of SSS Chicken Shop, and Bitta Raveendar, 24, of Ravi Chicken Shop, who hatched a plan to sell chicken waste and bones by storing them for up to several months, the police said.

Based on a tip-off, the officers of the Commissioner’s Task Force (North Zone Team) in Hyderabad City, along with the Sanitary Officer of Secunderabad Cantonment conducted raids at the two shops in Secunderabad and seized the noxious meat. They allegedly sold the stale meat to fast food centers and liquor shops at rates lesser than the market price, the police said.

“In such places where lots of business takes place, people consume chicken delicacies without doubting their quality. Also at Fast Food centers they mix chicken with artificial colours. Ajinomoto makes chicken look colourful and enhances the taste, making it easily sold to chicken lovers,” Y V S Sudheendra, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force), said.

According to the police, chicken when stored for longer periods becomes noxious and poses health risks to the consumers. The police have cautioned the public against purchasing chicken from unhygienic places and eating from fast food centers and small eateries and pushcarts adjacent to wine shops.
