The NIA, probing the Elgar Parishad case, told the Supreme Court Thursday that accused Gautam Navlakha has only paid Rs 10 lakh of Rs 1.60 crore towards expenses for his security in a private building where he is under house arrest.
Additional Solicitor General S V Raju conveyed this to a bench of Justices M M Sundresh and SVN Bhatti, which took up the agency’s plea to cancel the bail granted to him by the Bombay HC in December 2023 and his application to shift house arrest location.
Navlakha’s counsel, senior advocate Nitya Ramakrishnan contested the figure and said, “the matter needs to be heard”. The ASG said “he must pay some amount”. The court posted the matter for hearing in April.
