‘Mutual trust in democracy forms foundation of our ties’: PM Modi invites Cyprus President to India

Modi also thanked the Cyprus for its support to India's fight against cross-border terrorism.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday said mutual trust in democracy and rule of law form strong foundation of India’s ties with Cyprus.

Inviting Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides to India, Modi stated: “We respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Our ties are neither made by circumstances, nor limited.”

He said both the countries believe that this is not an era of war. “Resolution of (conflicts) through dialogue and restoration of peace is the call of humanity,” he added.

Modi also thanked the Cyprus for its support to India’s fight against cross-border terrorism.

“To give strategic direction to our ties, we will prepare solid roadmap for next 5 years,” he added.

Modi also rooted for direct air connectivity between India and Cyprus. “Cyprus a tourist destination for Indians, efforts will be made for direct air connectivity between two sides,” he said.

He also spoke about initiation of bilateral dialogue on cyber and maritime security.

The first Indian premier to visit the Mediterranean island country in 23 years, Modi reached Cyprus on Sunday and is set to travel to Kananaskis in Canada to participate in G7 Summit on Monday and Tuesday. This would be the PM’s sixth consecutive participation in the G7 Summit.
