Apprehending more violence, the state Home department also temporarily shut down internet services,
including broadband services,
in the district as a preventive measure. At least three persons, two civilians and a jawan of the Manipur Rifles, died of gunshot wounds in a firefight between the residents of two villages in the Ukhrul district of Manipur on Wednesday.
The incident, apparently the fallout of a boundary dispute, also left many others injured, prompting the authorities to impose an indefinite curfew in the area. An FIR has been registered and investigation is on, police said.
Those killed have been identified as civilians Reileiwung Hongray and Silas Zinkhai, and Worinmi Thumbra of the Manipur Rifles.
