The state would get around 90 companies of the CAPF, over and above the 198 companies that are already in Manipur. (PTI Photo)After a review meeting of security forces in the state, Manipur Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh said Friday that the state is going to receive 90 CAPF companies — around 9,000 personnel — soon, following the recent spate of violence since November 7, which have claimed the lives of 22 people.
Addressing reporters in Imphal, Singh said with the additional deployment, Manipur will have a total of 288 CAPF companies or around 28,800 CAPF personnel. Before the recent violence, the state already had 198 companies. He also said the toll since the start of the ethnic conflict in May last year stands at 258, including those of suspected “militants”.
The review meeting was attended by representatives of the Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, BSF, ITBP, and SSB. “We had asked for 20 (companies) after the existing 198 companies. Over and above, 70 (companies) more have been given… and a sizable portion of that has already reached Imphal,” he said.
On Friday, the bodies of nine Meitei people from Jiribam, who died during this period since November 7, were handed over to their families at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The final rites were conducted in Jiribam.
“We will be making district coordination cells and joint control rooms in every district, as well as whatever joint control room and coordination apparatus is already functioning in the state, we have reviewed that too. A number of SOPs have been prepared for deployment of forces, for coordination, for functioning, for fringe area security, for national highway security and for any other important point which is to be taken care of,” Singh said.
