Stating that men want to become “superman”, then “devta”, “bhagwan” and even aspire for “vishwaroop”, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat Thursday said that people should work for the welfare of mankind since there is no end to the pursuit of development.

Bhagwat was speaking at a village-level workers’ meeting, organised by a non-profit organisation called Vikas Bharti, run by RSS member Ashok Bhagat in Jharkhand’s Gumla.

“There is no end to development,” he said, adding, “Work should continue, one should strive to work constantly in areas of environment, education and health.”

On the topic of there being no end to the pursuit of development, be it “internal or external”, he said, “Manushya hai, lekin manavta nahi hai, insaaniyat nahin hai, wo manushya ban jaaye asli pehle. Wahan jaane ke baad usko lagta hai usko superman, atimanav, aloukik banna chahta hai. Lekin wahan rukta nahin, usko lagta hai dev banna chahiye, woh devta banna chahta hai. Lekin devta kehte hain humse toh bhagwan bada hai, woh bhagwan banna chahte hain. Aur bhagwaan kehta hai, mein toh vishwarup hoon (Humans are there, but they don’t have humanity, they need to cultivate that first. Once there, they want to become superman. But they don’t stop there – they feel they want to become a divine being. But a divine being feels god is greater, so he wants to become god. And then god says he is all-encompassing)…”

Bhagwat said he was never worried about the country’s future as many people were working collectively for its betterment, which was bound to show results.

“Various experiments were made in the past 2,000 years, but they failed to provide happiness and peace that are ingrained in India’s traditional way (of life). After corona (Covid-19), the world came to know India has the roadmap to peace and happiness,” he said.

Reacting to Bhagwat’s remarks, the Congress took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling the comments an “Agni Missile fired by Nagpur” and aimed at Lok Kalyan Marg. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh tagged a clip of Bhagwat’s remarks and said, “I am sure the self-anointed non-biological PM has got news of this latest Agni Missile fired by Nagpur from Jharkhand and aimed at Lok Kalyan Marg.”
