Deb also accused Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee of having links with land mafias. (file photo)Tripura BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had dishonoured the meaning of her name and that she had turned into a “demon” and “Mir Jafar”, who dumped Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah and paved the way for British rule in India after the colonial power’s victory in the 1757 Battle of Plassey.
“Like Mir Jafar, who had defamed his name so much so that no one from the Muslim community uses it for their children, she (Mamata Banerjee) has dishonoured her name. Nobody would want to name their daughter Mamata anymore,” he said.
The former Tripura chief minister, who is the BJP’s co-in-charge for the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal, was speaking during a visit to Indranagar in Agartala to offer prayers at the Kali Bari temple.
“It seems human life has become meaningless there (in West Bengal). Murders, rapes, and arson have become regular affairs. Still the CM is unaffected… It seems her heart was surgically removed,” he said.
“Generally, women have a sense of service and motherly affection. We don’t expect such behaviour (of Banerjee) from a woman of this country,” he said.
In a similar speech at a Kalipuja festival in Muhuripur in South Tripura district, Deb said, “We have to free Bengal. The woman who is running Bengal has already destroyed the state. Bengal is our pride. Bankimchandra has given Vande Mataram from Bengal, Rabindranath Tagore has given us Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka and Geetanjali from Bengal, Deshabandhu Chittaranjan was from Bengal, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who chased the British away from India, and Swami Vivekananda, who is the most influential monk in the world, Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, who introduced widow remarriage, Raja Rammohun Roy, who got Sati abolished, and Syamaprasad Mookerjee… A pro-development Bengal will be a reality in 2026 under the leadership of Narendra Modi.”
Deb also accused Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee of having links with land mafias.
“People of West Bengal are willing to end unlawful activities and corruption. The present fight in West Bengal is to make the state free from such demons and restore human values,” he said.
