The BJP has sought an explanation within three days from former minister and party MLA Raj Purohit over a sting operation in which he is shown making objectionable remarks against top BJP leaders and the RSS.

The state BJP has decided to crack the whip on Purohit for denting the image of the party through his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president Amit Shah, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the RSS.

The party asked Purohit to furnish a detailed explanation within three days or face disciplinary action.

On June 25, Marathi news channel TV 9 procured a video showing an unknown interviewer in a lengthy discussion with the three-term MLA from Kalbadevi in South Mumbai. In what appears to be a sting operation, Purohit slammed Modi and Shah’s style of functioning and accused the RSS of being managed by builder-turned-politician Mangal Prabhat Lodha.

The BJP notice stated, “It is evident that such conduct is violation of organisational norms. As a consequence, we are issuing notice to you. We expect you to reply within three days. Or else we will take disciplinary action.”

Purohit did not make any personal appearance to dismiss the allegations but issued a signed statement saying the “video operation” was fabricated.

Purohit said, “It is not my voice in the video. I have never spoken against any of my party leaders at the Centre or state.” Purohit said, “I have the highest regard for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah. I respect CM Devendra Fadnavis for his integrity and administration”.

He added, “I also respect MNS chief Raj Thackeray.” In the video, Thackeray had also been attacked.

Though BJP leaders were not willing to comment on developments, many of them said, in private, that Purohit’s statement, if true, cannot be pardoned.
