
Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh CM Swearing-in Ceremony Highlights: Vishnu Deo Sai, a four-time Lok Sabha MP and three-time state BJP chief, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. Current state unit chief Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, an organisational leader, were sworn-in as the deputy chief ministers. Both the BJP and government officials had remained tight-lipped on the names of the two new deputy chief ministers till the oath-taking ceremony. Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sai, and his two deputies during a grand swearing-in ceremony held at the Science College ground in Raipur attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari and Ramdas Athawale, and BJP president JP Nadda.
Mohan Yadav Wednesday took oath as the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh at Bhopal’s Lal Parade Ground. Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Devda were sworn is as his deputies. Yadav was a former education minister and three-time MLA from Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain South. While Devda belongs to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Shukla has emerged as the undisputed Brahmin face in the Vindhya Pradesh region.
The swearing-in ceremony saw the crowd chanting ‘mama, mama’ as Chouhan arrived on stage, while ‘Modi, Modi’ slogans remained prevalent throughout the ceremony. Among the attendees were all BJP big wigs like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Maharasthra CM Eknath Shinde and other central ministers. They will also head to Raipur later.

The new Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav, who took the oath of his office Wednesday, has come under attack from the Opposition Congress, which has raked up its allegation against Yadav in connection with “irregularities” in a land case in Ujjain city. Yadav is a three-time BJP MLA from Ujjain South.
Barely a day after the BJP named Yadav as its CM for MP, Congress national general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh posted a statement in Hindi on X, stating that “Eight days after the election results, BJP elected the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, a person against whom there are many serious allegations including of large-scale manipulation in the Ujjain master plan.” He also made a reference to Simhastha land while targeting Yadav.
The land in question is related to the Simhastha satellite town in Ujjain where the Simhastha fair known as the Ujjain Mahakumbh is organised every 12 years. Who is Mohan Yadav, the new Madhya Pradesh CM?
Mohan Yadav has been associated with the RSS for a long time, thus edged out senior BJP leaders in the CM race. He is a three-time MLA from Ujjain South.
A father of three children, Yadav has a diverse academic background, having secured a range of degrees: BSc, LLB, MA, MBA and PhD.
Yadav has been known as a proponent of Hindutva. He has also been embroiled in various rows in his political career. During his campaigning for the November polls, Yadav triggered a controversy when he asked the Congress leaders what was their “aaukat” (worth).
The Congress, including ex-minister Sajjan Singh Verma, had accused Yadav of allegedly influencing the Ujjain Municipal Corporation to change the master plan of the city so that the lands held by his family were turned into residential areas in July 2023. Read more
Who is Rajendra Shukla, the second Madhya Pradesh Deputy CM?
Rajendra Shukla is a five-time MLA from Rewa and has emerged a strong Brahmin face of the BJP in the Vindhya Pradesh region, once considered a stronghold of the Congress. The BJP won 25 of the 30 seats of the region in the recently-concluded polls.
Shukla (59), born in Rewa, has an engineering background. He began his political career in student politics and was elected president of the student union at the Government Engineering College in 1986.
He contested his first Assembly election in 1998 and lost to Independent candidate Pushpraj Singh by a narrow margin of just over 1,000 votes. Shukla has remained undefeated since. Read more
Who is Jagdish Devda, the newest Madhya Pradesh Deputy CM?
Born in Rampura village of Neemuch district, Devda (66) was finance minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government before being elevated to the post of deputy CM.
In 1979, Devda joined the BJP’s youth wing – the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) – and served as the mandal president, district general secretary, and district president in Mandsaur district. He was also the district convenor and state president of the SC cell of the BJYM.

Vishnu Deo Sai to take oath as Chhattisgarh CM
Vishnu Deo Sai, a four-time Lok Sabha MP and former state BJP chief, will be sworn in at the Science College ground in Raipur.
Sai was made Chhattisgarh BJP chief three times — in 2006, 2011 and 2020. But his last term was cut short, as he was replaced last year, ahead of the Assembly polls. In July this year, Sai was named a member of the BJP national executive.
