(Credit: Pixabay)Life Certificate for pensioners, Life Certificate for Pensioners 2025 Online: Pensioners know what November means. Every year, scores of pensioners line up at banks or post offices to get a life certificate in the month of November. At some places, this has even become a sure-shot way for people to meet their former colleagues every year and many people coordinate their visit. But, the life certificate for pensioners isn’t just an optional exercise. It is a very important step contributing to your financial safety and preventing hassles.
Marking your presence and filling the form along with documents to obtain your life certificate ensures that you continue to receive the pension money. To prevent fraud and misuse, the government has made it mandatory for pension disbursing agencies (PDAs) to verify the life certificate before crediting the pension amount. Pensioners are allowed to complete the life certificate process from November 1 to November 30. Super-seniors, or those above the age of 80, get an additional month. Those aged over 80 can submit the life certificate from October 1 to November 30. While getting a life certificate is mandatory, it’s not mandatory to obtain it by appearing in person.
Before your visit to your bank or post office, make sure you have the following documents ready. Here’s a handy checklist
You will also need to provide your biometrics, such as an iris or a fingerprint scan.
There are at least a couple of ways of getting your life certificate from the comfort of your home. The best part if you don’t have to visit the bank branch or post office to generate or present the life certificate document. The document is automatically available to your pension disbursing agency.
Method #1
Method #2
Jeevan Pramaan or Digital Life Certificate is a biometric-enabled Aadhaar-based Digital Life Certificate for pensioners. No two life certificates can be same because they use the information specific to you, such as your Aadhaar number and biometric details.
Once your Jeevan Pramaan id is generated, you can download the Digital Life Certificate by clicking on https://jeevanpramaan.gov.in/ppouser/login.
This will let you check the status of your Digital Life Certificate.
Please note that even as the government has launched digital alternatives for getting your life certificate, they are just that: alternatives. The old way you used to get life certificates — by visiting your bank branch or the post office building — hasn’t gone anywhere. You can still do that, rather than uploading the details to the Jeevan Pramaan portal or the UMANG app.
If you don’t want to miss the old charm of visiting the bank branch for a day out or are not comfortable with the digital methods, you can follow these steps:
To get your life certificate offline, you need to visit your nearest bank branch, post office or Citizen Service Centre (CSC).
You need to carry all necessary documents, mentioned above, such as your Aadhaar and the PPO.
Once you manually fill in the life certificate form and submit it, the staff will cross-check and verify the information.
Once satisfied, they will record the submission, and you are free for a year.
Visit the Jeevan Pramaan website https://jeevanpramaan.gov.in and search the nearest CSC by clicking on ‘Locate a Centre’.
Or you can text the following message to 7738299899 : “JPL” followed by a space and then your pin-code. e.g. JPL 482003 and send it to 7738299899.
