Two youths were arrested on Monday in connection with a complaint by an Australian woman tourist that she was raped by one of them,police said. The victim,Mercy Luz (23),staying here on a six-month tourist visa,had been befriended by one of the accused,Vishwas,a Bachelor of Business Management drop-out,they said. The girl,whose father is employed in the Australian Embassy in Australia,stayed in a rented accommodation in Lakhmiuram area in Mysore. On June 24,Luz told Vishwas that she wanted to travel to Bangalore by bus to call on a friend but the youth offered to take her in his car,which she turned down. However,Vishwas trailed her and persuaded her to alight from the bus between Chennapatna and Ramanagar and took her to a hotel where he allegedly raped her. Vishwas' cousin S Gowda,under the guise of rescuing Luz,also allegedly tried to sexually assault her, police said. The girl managed to escape and filed a complaint with the police on Sunday. The officials said that both the arrested are in police custody.
