Kashmir Valley freezes; Leh coldest in J&K

Kargil district headquarters,situated in the cold desert of Ladakh,recorded a minimum of minus 5.6 degrees Celsius.

Several parts in Jammu and Kashmir were reeling under the intense cold conditions with Leh town in frontier Ladakh region being the coldest place in the state where the night temperature dipped to minus 10.6 degrees Celsius.

Kargil district headquarters,situated in the cold desert of Ladakh,recorded a minimum of minus 5.6 degrees Celsius,a Met department official said here on Thursday.

Famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius.

The sub-zero temperature was also recorded in Pahalgam hill resort and Kupwara town. While the mercury dipped to minus 0.4 in Pahalgam,it was minus 0.1 deg C in Kupwara,the official said.

However,the night temperature recorded in Srinagar was 2.4 degrees Celsius — two degrees above normal.

Srinagar along with other parts of the Valley was lashed by intermittent rains this morning.
