Congress can’t underestimate its opponents, but is confident: PM

The PM said he did not "underestimate" opposition's power to "unsettle the ship of the state".

In the wake of the exit polls predicting a victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Assembly elections in four states,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday hit out at the opposition saying he could not “underestimate” its power to “unsettle the ship of the state”.

“As a political party we can’t underestimate the power of the opposition to unsettle the ship of the state,” said the Prime Minister when asked about the challenge posed by BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

He further ruled out any possibility of the Congress-led UPA being complacent, saying,”I am one of those who takes very seriously our opponent. There is no room for complacency.”

The Prime Minister asserted that his party was going to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections with a spirit of “self confidence” and that “should not be mistaken whatever is the outcome of Assembly polls”.

Singh also said that he welcomed the “revolution of rising expectations” which is underway.
