The steerman and another crew member of the tourist boat that capsized in Thekkady lake last week,leaving 45 people dead,were arrested on Monday.

The steerman of the double-decker boat Victor Samuel and crew member Anish were arrested by the police team probing the tragedy. They would be produced before a magistrate court at Peerumade in Idukki district later,police said. A preliminary probe into the boat tragedy had found that an overcrowded upper deck and the steeersman’s “carelessness” caused the tourist boat to capsize in the lake here on September 30.
