Attacks:’India-Australia cordial relations might be affected’

The Centre said the cordial relations between India and Australia might be affected if the attacks on Indians continued in that country.

The Centre on Thursday said the cordial relations between India and Australia might be affected if the attacks on Indians continued in that country.

“If such attacks on Indians continue,the cordial relations between the two countries might be affected,” Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi told reporters here.

Ravi said he also endorsed the views of External Affairs Minister S M Krishna,who had stated in Delhi on Wednesday that the attacks on Indians in Australia do not “augur well” for bilateral ties.

India had requested Australia to ensure safety of its citizens,he said,adding “there has been a 20 to 25 per cent fall in visa applicants to Australia.”

He also claimed there was a steep fall in number of NRIs returning from Gulf countries due to the economic slowdown.
