AIADMK workers in the district on Wednesday threatened to form suicide squads to protect party chief Jayalalithaa if police failed to nab those who reportedly issued a threat to her life.
A resolution of the party’s Coimbatore district wing at Eachanari demanded the immediate arrest of those behind the threat,failing which suicide squads would be formed to protect Jayalalithaa.
On August 28,Jaya TV had received a threatening letter which warned of a bomb attack on the AIADMK supremo during her proposed rally in Madurai next month.
The channel received another letter on September 3,warning of “serious consequences” if it did not stop telecast of certain programmes,one relating to the murder of a former minister.
In an another resolution,the workers pledged to bring back AIADMK rule and start election work by forming booth committees in the state.
Around 800 AIADMK workers,led by party MLAs,Pollachi Jayaraman participated in the meeting.
Meanwhile,a day after AIADMK MPs met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh complaining about ruling DMK’s “lackadaisical approach” towards security of their leader Jayalalithaa,the Tamil Nadu government today said she was being given “adequate security” following death threats to her.
