22 mining leases suspended in YSR district

Action was taken after mine owners failed to comply with the conditions laid down by the IBM.

22 mining leases were suspended in this district of Andhra Pradesh,officials said.

Based on the instructions of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM),the state authorities recently suspended 22 mining leases in YSR district (formerly Kadapa),Assistant Director (Mines) Venkata Reddy said at a press conference.

The action was taken after the mine owners failed to comply with the conditions laid down by the IBM,he said.

IBM had issued notices to the mine owners,asking them to follow the rules framed by it. The mine owners had,however,failed to comply with the rules,Reddy said.

There are 200 mines in YSR district.

Action would be initiated against a few more mines,he added.
