Kerala: 11 injured as they fall into sea after wave breaks floating bridge handrail in Varkala

As the people standing on the floating bridge were wearing life jackets, they could be brought back to shore quickly and safely without any loss of life.

At least 11 people were injured after they fell into the sea when a huge wave hit a floating bridge, breaking a handrail of the bridge at Varkala beach in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram district.

Police officials were rushed to the spot and are taking stock of the situation.


According to an officer of the Varkala police station quoted by news agency PTI, the 11 injured persons included two children. Two of the injured persons were referred to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College as their injuries were serious.

As the people standing on the floating bridge were wearing life jackets, they could be brought back to shore quickly and safely without any loss of life, an official said.
