(Representational/File) The Countering Child Sexual Exploitation Cell of Kerala police has registered 133 cases, raided 449 locations and seized 212 devices as part of its crackdown on those possessing child sex abuse material (CSAM)’, it said Monday.
Inspector General P Prakash, the cell’s nodal officer, said eight persons have been arrested during the covert operation, named P-HUNT_ 23.3, on Sunday. They were booked under Section 67 B of the IT Act.
The arrested include professionals, mainly tech-savvy ones, police said, adding the accused were using encrypted handles to upload and download the CSAM material. Some of those arrested are suspected to be involved in the trafficking of children.
According to the police, 212 devices, including mobile phones, hard disks, laptops, with illegal videos and pictures of children were seized.
