Congress state president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Wednesday criticised the Mamata Banerjee-led state government for not doing enough to ensure justice for the 2013 Kamduni rape victim. He was speaking during a protest organised by the Congress in Kolkata against the acquittal of a key accused in the case recently.

The Calcutta High Court last week acquitted a capital punishment awardee and commuted the death sentence of two of the accused to life imprisonment in the 2013 Kamduni rape-murder case in North 24 Parganas. On Monday, the state government filed a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court and sought a stay on the High Court order.

Chowdhury said, “There is no use of relying on the state government. It has been 10 years and the government has not been able to do anything…After the acquittal of the accused, the CM is trying to hide her face. The government has moved the Supreme Court. Why was it not done for so long?.”
