The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded L Deepak Reddy, as the party seeks to emerge as an alternative to the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) and Congress.
Gopinath’s widow Sunita is the BRS candidate, looking to retain the seat and come back to power after its shocking defeat in the 2023 Assembly polls.
The ruling Congress has nominated Naveen Yadav as its candidate, who enjoys the support of Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). The party is steadfast in its goal to further strengthen its electoral hold.
Though the bypoll result would have no bearing on the stability of the Congress government, the outcome would be seen as a referendum on CM Revanth Reddy’s performance, according to a report in The Indian Express.
Dholakia’s son Jay is in the fray as a BJP candidate, while the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has fielded its women’s wing chief Snehangini Chhuria.
Meanwhile, veteran tribal leader Ghasiram Majhi has been nominated as the Congress candidate. Apart from these, there are other 11 candidates in the fray in Nuapada.
