Soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza, Israeli ambassador to India Reuven Azar said his country is “very grateful” for India’s voice of support.

“We share common principles and a vision of rejecting terrorism and countering radicalisation. We want to see an end to this conflict,” Azar said while speaking to news agency PTI on Tuesday, adding that now its time to see whether Hamas accepts the proposal or not. “We hope Qatar and Egypt put pressure, but if they don’t, Israel will continue its military operations,” he said.

The White House Monday released a 20-point document that called for an immediate ceasefire, an exchange of hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, a staged Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, Hamas disarmament and a transitional government led by an international body.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the plan and expressed hope that all “concerned will come together” behind the initiative and support “this effort to end conflict and secure peace”. “It provides a viable pathway to long term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region,” he added.
