A PMLA Appellate Tribunal has upheld a 2018 order issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for provisionally attaching the assets of Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, the son of former finance minister P Chidambaram, in the INX money laundering case probe.

The properties included a part of a flat in Delhi’s Jor Bagh area and deposits worth a few crores at a bank in Chennai.
Karti, 53, had filed an appeal before the Appellate Tribunal in 2019, seeking to set aside the attachment order on the grounds that the ED did not file the chargesheet within the stipulated 365 days.

The Tribunal, in an interim order in September 2019, had directed that status quo be maintained on the attachment order, including against the eviction of the owner from the house.
