National Highways in India: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is continuously working to enhance India’s infrastructure by undertaking several mission-mode projects. Currently, the country has a road network spanning over 63 lakh km. Of this, the total length of National Highways (NH) stands at 1,46,342 km. This marks a significant expansion from 91,287 km in March 2014, an increase of 55,055 km in the National Highway network over the past decade. In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said: "Length of National Highways (NH) network in the country has expanded from 91,287 km in March, 2014 to 146,342 km at present." The Union Minister also added that the length of access-controlled National High Speed Corridors (HSC) / Expressways has increased from 93 km in March, 2014 to 5,110 km at present. "Out of 5,110 km length, 2,636 km length has already been operationalised," he said. India's top 10 states with longest National Highway (NH) network Let's know about the top ten states with longest National Highway (NH) network in the country. As per available data, Maharashtra tops all states in terms of the longest National Highway network, with a total length of 18,462 km. It is followed by Uttar Pradesh with 12,123 km; Rajasthan with 10,733 km; Madhya Pradesh with 9,263 km; and Andhra Pradesh with 8,683 km. Other states with significant NH networks include Karnataka (8,191 km), Gujarat (8,111 km), Tamil Nadu (7,000 km), Bihar (6,155 km), and Odisha (5,897 km).
