BrahMos missile with indigenous booster successfully test-fired

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Wednesday successfully test-fired the BrahMos surface-to-surface cruise missile with an indigenous booster and air frame sector, along with other sub-systems made within the country. The supersonic missile is one of the prime precision-strike missiles used by all three forces, the Army, Navy and the Air Force.

“BrahMos surface-to-surface supersonic cruise missile featuring indigenous Booster and Airframe Section along with many other ‘Made in India’ sub-systems was successfully flight tested for designated range” at 10.30 am from the integrated test range at Balasore in Odisha, the Defence Ministry said in a statement. “It is one more major step in enhancing the indigenous content.”

The BrahMos Land-Attack Cruise Missile (LACM) was cruising at a top speed of Mach 2.8. The missile weighs around 2.5 tonnes and has a strike range of approximately 300 km.

The test comes at a time when BrahMos has been deployed in Ladakh as well as the Eastern Sector in Arunachal Pradesh to tackle any threats in the ongoing standoff with China.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted to congratulate DRDO on “the successful flight testing of #BRAHMOS Supersonic Cruise Missile with Indigenous Booster and Air Frame for designated range”. This achievement, he said, “will give a big boost to India’s Atma Nirbhar Bharat Pledge”.
