A woman, who was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for carrying over 200 grams of heroin, has been sentenced to one year jail term by a Delhi court. Additional Sessions Judge Sanjiv on Friday sentenced Pooja,a resident of the capital,to one year imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 6,000 after holding her guilty under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Pooja and her husband,Shyam Sunder,on the night of June 25,2002,had gone to Piragarhi in west Delhi on a two-wheeler to deliver the contraband to a customer. The NCB,which had laid a trap following a tip off, could arrest only Pooja, public prosecutor B S Arora said. Sunder had managed to give a slip to the NCB sleuths. He was later declared proclaimed offender during the seven-year-long trial as the NCB could not arrest him. The court gave lighter punishment to the convict as the actual quantity, after the purity test, came down to 28 grams.
