Three more children succumb to encephalitis in east UP

As many as 550 encephalitis deaths have occurred at BRD-MCH this year.

Three more children succumbed to encephalitis taking the death toll from the viral disease this year to 576 in eastern region of Uttar Pradesh,health officials said on Friday.

The children died in Baba Raghav Das Medical College Hospital here,they said.

Twenty one people with symptoms of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome were admitted to BRD-MCH and other district hospitals in the last 24 hours,they said.

As many as 550 encephalitis deaths have occurred at BRD-MCH,while rest of the deaths have been reported from different districts of Gorakhpur and Basti divisions,they said.

Since January this year,2771 encephalitis patients,of whom 576 succumbed to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome,were admitted to different government hospitals,the officials

said.

Around 188 patients are still being treated at BRD-MCH,the sources said.
