Tarun Tejpal’s mother dies

Former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal’s mother died at Goa’s Moira village Sunday. Shakuntala Tejpal was suffering from cancer.

Tejpal’s family is expected to file an application in the Panaji sessions court Monday seeking permission for his release so he could attend the funeral. Tejpal is in jail in connection with a sexual assault case on a journalist.

The cremation is expected to take place on Monday, said family members. Shakuntala, who lived in Delhi, had shifted to the family’s Goa home. She was in the ICU for a brief period before she was shifted to her home.
